Bible Believers
Ruben Israel Chavez from Los Angeles, California is a prominent American member of the extremists. He is involved in ongoing training and recruitment for Canadian affiliates of the extremists. Chavez claims to be employed as a contractor. Chavez leads the faction called Bible Believers, a hate group who routinely target Pride events across Canada and the US. They are on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s HateWATCH. His YouTube channel, Bible Believers, gives a fairly clear picture of Chavez’s activity over the years. On this channel he repeatedly brags about being arrested and detained multiple times in the US. He has specifically noted that he has been arrested in New Orleans. We do not know if Chavez has been detained or arrested in Canada.
Pride Haldimand-Norfolk in Dunnville, Ontario
Ruben Israel Chavez, along with a large group of the extremists – consisting of both American and local agitators – attacked the 2nd annual Pride Haldimand-Norfolk on May 26, 2018.
The day after the attack at Pride Haldimand-Norfolk in Dunnville – Ruben Israel Chavez and Bible Believers went to the Haldimand County Office in Caledonia, Ontario. Eyewitness accounts say that Bible Believers got a hold of the home addresses of all the people who had organized and obtained permits for Pride Haldimand-Norfolk. Chavez and his posse caused enough disruption that police were called.
Bible Believers Target Pride Organizers & Care Home
With information obtained at the permit office, Chavez and 4 other extremists went to the care home of Pride Haldimand-Norfolk organizer Ken Hancock, where they uttered threats and violently targeted Hancock. We do not know if any charges have been pressed.
Bible Believers Facebook Page and Photo Repository
To date, Bible Believers has uploaded over 200 photos of their attack on Pride Haldimand-Norfolk on their Facebook page. We presume these photos have been taken by Dean Saxton. Many images of pride-goers have been uploaded and made public, including many photos of children/minors who attended the event.
If you see photos of yourself or of your kids on the Bible Believers Facebook page and want them taken down – you can report abuse directly to Facebook without having to directly interact with Bible Believers.
Here is a Guide to Reporting Abuse written by the Facebook Help Center.
Official Street Preachers Blog
Chavez’s blog, Official Street Preachers, wrote this blog post about the May 2018 attacks in Canada which describe the Pride Event in Dunnville, “street preaching” in Hamilton and targeting Anime North in Toronto. Below is an excerpt which specifically describes the Pride Haldimand-Norfolk attack:
OHHhh Canada – June 1, 2018 – by Ruben Chavez:

Bible Believers on SPLC HateWATCH
Bible Believers and has been placed on the Southern Poverty Law Center’s HATEWATCH for targeting Dearborn, Michigan’s annual Arab International Festival in 2012 – an event which ran for 18 years and drew thousands of people. The festival had to shut down due to their insurance fees becoming too expensive due to the attacks of multiple agitators including Chavez’s group – Bible Believers.
SPLC, June 18, 2012
Muslims in Dearborn, Mich., were once again targeted for their beliefs on Friday when a group of protesters calling themselves the “Bible Believers” confronted celebrants at the city’s annual Arab International Festival with a pig’s head on a spike and signs decrying Islam as a false religion, the Detroit Free Press reports.
In addition to the pig’s head – presumably intended to offend observant Muslims, who do not eat pork – Bible Believers reportedly carried signs calling Islam “a religion of blood and murder” and describing the Islamic prophet Muhammad as a “liar,” “false prophet,” “murderer” and “child-molesting pervert.”
Actively Recruiting
Bible Believers actively recruits. In the following video, Chavez talks about new recruit, Alina, in Chicago being a street preacher and being setup with a new business.

American Activities
According to Chavez’s channel he has been active as a self-proclaimed “street preacher” since the 1980s. He appears to be a key figure at a controversial “conference” in Cincinatti, Ohio held annually by SOAPA – Street and Open Air Preachers Association – whose sole demographic appears to be angry men with signs.
Chavez has also targeted Pride Events and spread hate propaganda across the US, including but not limited to: Utah Pride, West Hollywood Pride, and Pheonix Pride in 2018.
Video caption: Rueben Israel Chavez who attacked Dunnville, Ontario can be seen at Utah Pride in front with the Trust Jesus shirt.
If you watch the Utah Pride video (above), please take note of the very young girl in the fluorescent green shirt with braids underneath the banner that says HOMO SEX IS SIN. Their signs also say that sodomy – their word for gay/queer sex – is worthy of death.
As the video progresses, this young girl covers her ears to shield herself from the loud shrill noise of the sound amplification. It’s heartbreaking to watch a young child be a) Put in a stressful and potentially dangerous situation. b) be socialized to hate people based on their sexual orientation and gender identity.
VICE Profile
VICELAND has done a feature on Chavez where he is seen telling his male followers to keep provoking people – at all costs – even if his followers are severely injured. Chavez has no problem with inciting a riot and doesn’t care if anyone is injured including his followers, members of the public, or law enforcement. Any violence that occurs gives him video footage he uses as branded content for his YouTube channel and blog.
Excerpt from VICELAND feature with correspondant Jamal Maddix and one of Chavez’s male followers:
Maddix: “What made you join this church?”
Follower: “It’s not a church. It’s just a group of men.”
Maddix: “What made you join this group of men?”
Follower: “Because I want to tell people the good news.”
